Can older people learn martial arts?
Absolutely. There exists today a wide variety of martial arts, which is great~~because there is something for everyone. Hidden Path Arts can tailor a program for any age over 4 years.
Is this a "fight club"?
No. There are clubs that focus on high intensity and brutal contact. We are not that style. One of our goals is for students to learn how to defend themselves to the best of their ability. Another goal is to impart the philosophies and art that are vital to our martial arts style. We classify our club as a cross between traditional/ sport/ philosophical.
What do you do besides train in the dojo?
We actively participate in tournament and community events. The club has been represented in tournaments from Kankakee to Grayslake to Wisconsin. We perform demonstrations for Marengo Expo, Boone County Fair, Boy Scouts, Benefits, Project Action Fundraisers, parades, and more. Head Instructor and owner Kim Bauman arranges numerous events every year that students can CHOOSE to participate in. We believe in giving back to our communities. Donations of tuition scholarships are made to local fundraisers regularly.
I have seen some of your students breaking bricks and doing tornado kicks. Will I have to learn that?
Or can I learn that?
All of our students learn to break pine boards. Qualified students may learn to break bricks with instructor permission. Young people are NOT PERMITTED to break concrete because of the risk to their growing bodies. As students progress, they will learn more and more kicks. Quite a few of our students can perform specialty kicks and splits. Again, your program will be tailored to fit you!
Martial arts is our passion. It can become yours, too!
